just to make sure i wasn't seeing things, i asked Chuck Austen about it and he said:
"There is no priest collar on his new uniform. As to what that means ....

Who has done that? I don't like the way he has done Nightcrawler's face. And the costume... I prefer the old one, I know that it was ridiculous, but I liked it!

yeah i know, i am far from thrilled with the new costumes... it's Ron Garney drawing, btw. tho his next cover is much nicer, no Kurt in it tho, jsut Warren and Stacy.

but that's not the point, this is - NO PRIEST COLLAR!! he has (very probably) left the priesthood by the time Austens first issue comes out - that's only 3 issues away (2 of thsoe bi-weekly) folks! no more priest! rejoice, **rejoice** i tell you! i can live with a bad costume if he's gonna be written as the old fun loving, swashbuckling ladies man we all know and love. and besides, apparently they are doing alternating storylines, so Phillips will be back for 3 issues as of issue 113.

Here's hoping...though I doubt he'll go straight back to the fun-loving elf. It would have been a huge decision to don the collar in the first place...taking it off must have been just as hard...

I never actually hated the collar...I prefer him without it, of course...but he's always been a man of strong faith...it's just one of the many things I've always loved about the character...
