Every summer we get them. We live in an old house so they always come in some way. I'll just be sitting there and then flapflapflap, there's a bat flying around in circles. Then I get the broom, knock it out of the air, wrap something around my hand, pick it up and throw it out. I just performed this task before posting this. (Had to turn on the living room light and when I went to see where I thought I knocked it down, felt something on the bottom of my sock and there it was.) So far it's only been in the living room or dining room. The worst times are when it's in the bedroom at night and I gotta make sure I don't knock it into bed/onto the wife or babies.

We had one get caught in our dorm once. One of those dorms with the long hallways and a fire door on each end... me and the broom and the bat, back and forth... back and forth...

At my last job I used to sit up on the top floors and listen to and watch the bats flying around. Then there was an increase in the number of barn owls living in the buildings' eaves. I think they took care of the bat population. I can just picture the owls sitting up on the rain gutters.
"Here comes another one, are you still hungry?"
"Naw, you can have this one. When did the mice grow wings anyway?"

Closest I came to that was catching a bird in the warehouse where I used to work. It was a baby that couldn't fly yet (don't know how it got in there). Chased it through all kinds of pipes and wires. Finally caught it and let it go.
