    Question

    Hi Folks-

I've been lurking around for a while, so I thought I'd finally just pop out and try to take part in what's goin' on around here.

I was wondering what everybody read *besides* SIP? You know- filler to pass the time between new issues <g>.

    Peace,
    TufLilCuss

Cripes- guess I should explain why I titled this thread "web comics"...

How do you folks feel about them? Scott McCloud has a good site up-
    www.scottmccloud.com

He's written a book called "Understanding Comics", too. Anyway he's got some links on his page to different web comic artists.

Personally I prefer paper- there's something magical about opening a book up (especially one as well put-together as Terry's). Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are, though...

Web comics can be just as addictive as the paper version. For a while I read User Friendly (http://www.userfriendly.org), but my two obsessions at the moment are:

    Sluggy Freelance (http://www.sluggy.com)

    and

    Boy Meets Boy(http://boymeetsboy.keenspace.com)

Both strips have been around for years, and the artwork just keeps getting better and better (witness the Sluggy Freelance chapter, "Fire and Rain"). Though getting the story only in bites (with an obligatory daily punchline) can be annoying at times (especially for the impatient types, like me), you get to love the characters and _need_ to hear what's happening next!

The fact that online comics are free, and the artists are doing them for the sheer joy of it, adds to it as well.

Anyone else have suggestions of what to read?

I'm partial to www.stickleyandjones.com because, well because it is my comic.

P.S. Remember when Terry posted comics on this site? Any chance he'll start doing that again?

I read(in paper) A Distant Soil by Collen Doran, very good but she takes for-e-ver to get an ish out, and Aria(can't think off the top of my head who does it) again with the beautiful art and three months between comics. I used to like Ghost but it got too scattered with never the same artists or weriters... and Elfquest was my favorite till they fell off the edge of the world and went off to movieland.
I love webcomics. I think they're great, and a great way to save resources. You can find all the comics from newspapers(which is the only thing you want the paper for anyway unless you have a parot)without killing any trees for it. Of mainstream comics that I read online they are For Better Or For Worse(real characters who age and grow and aren't cloying kids forever)Get Fuzzy, Liberty Medows(which isn't being made anymore!WAHHhhhh!)Foxtrot, and Rose is Rose. Of other webcomics... ie, onging series done by somebody just for love or fame or self-publishing... I like MegaTokyo, Bruno Baldwin, Explotation Now!, Eversummers Eve, and Clan of the Cats(the main charcter looks so much like Francine!)
And someday soon I too hope to have my webcomic up. It will be called Space Opera and I'm just waiting to hear back from the webhost, I'll let everyone know when it's up and running.

Yes, it is, but it is a comic book now.
