Would you consider Griffin Silver as your midlife crisis doppleganger? Just wondering.

Not really. He's been ganging up on my dopple since I was a teenager (what the hell kind of word is doppleganger - what drunk slurred that to Daniel Webster?!). My mid-life diversion has yet to be defined. Any suggestions?

Terry, really! I'm surprised you don't notice the Germanic origin of the word "doppelganger". It's so OBVIOUSLY European...
*sigh*
Maybe I'm just a know- it- all....

To add to the confusion:
I, as a native speaker of German and a linguist (something most people consider being worse than the mafia, only double as boring
), can assure you that, indeed, doppelganger is a German word (well, the original is capitalised like every noun in German and the "a" is an "umlaut" thingie with dots on top of it, but anyway). "Doppel" just means double, and the ganger part does not say anything about gangs. It's from the German word for "going". So, essentially, a doppelganger is someone who goes (exists) twice. It means the same in German, but dear old Webster also has some real pearls from Germ?n like angst, sangfroid, weltschmertz and others. Then again, the Germans have words like "Handy", which means mobile phone, and they all think it's the genuine English word...of course it's "handy"!
Now that I've bored you all to death...maybe some Oreos to revive you?

Ah, German, the language that brought us such great words as fussgangeruberweg and falschimjaeger(sp?).....
I loved taking German in HS! Their compound words are the best!

The Dopple Gang? Didn't they have a song about the roof being on fire?
(sorry about the awful pun)
