has anyone heard anything about kodak or pro8mm or somebody repackaging the new 5218 stock for super 8mm? 5218 is the new 500T vision 2 neg.
i haven't tested it yet, but i talked to a gaffer friend of mine who worked on a shoot using this stock - he said parts of scene that were 4 stops under camera exposure were still reading okay. he thought the latitude was about 8 stops before the image fell apart.
even better for super 8, the grain is mega-super tight. seems like this, coupled with the 500 filmspeed would make a great stock for super 8mm. all you'd have to worry about then is having a camera with a sharp lens, and the cartridge registration.
anyways, just wondering. i really wanna shoot super 8!

I wonder how it compares with the 200T. I like the 200T but it almost sounds like this stock could be comparable, but with more sensitivity.

I have always found the kodak film naming system quite annoying.
5272, 5218, hut hut hut...!!!
Why can't they put the ASA rating somewhere in the number they assign to it?

who knows. maybe it's cause so many people rate film at speeds other than the ones on the can (they do put the EI on the can at least!)
btw, i'm shooting a spot next sunday - i'm going to shoot a bit of 5218, thrown in with 5279, the old vision 500T (my least favorite kodak stock of all time, but i've got too much and gotta get rid of it somehow.) it'll be interesting to see how the two compare.
instead of doing a proper film test, i decided to make the commercial my test of 5218. living dangerously!
and yeah, i'm rating the 5279 at between 320 and 400, depending on if i've got a tailwind or not.
