Beaulieu 2008

I was wondering if anybody knew if the 2008 runs at 24fps? Also, if anybody has any opinions on this camera, I'd love to hear them?

Back in the 80's my friend had a beaulieu. It might have been the same camera that cameraguy is talking about.

However, I don't think the film speed was actually variable. It looked like it was variable because of the speed wheel. But I think there were actual points of demarkation throughout the speed wheel, so instead of being truly variable, there were actually concise spots that represented precise film speeds.

I have a dim recollection that the camera ran at filming speeds of 2,4,9,18,25,36,50.

The 2008 has a variable speed dial exactly like a projector with a variable speed dial. You run the camera and then turn the dial and the speed steadily increases as the dial is turned. Its not in steps but continuous. The 2008 is 2-50, early 4008's are also 2-50. Then the 4008ZM models are 2-70 except the 4008ZM4 which is 2-80. There is always one click stop in the dial at either 18, 24 or 25 fps. The 3008/5008 models unlike the 2008/4008 have discrete running speeds.

The 2008 has the same mirror shutter and retracktable ground glass focus as the later more common 4008 ZMII. The viewfinder is 20x. It should have the same fast shutter speed of 1/100 at 24 fps with a variable shutter lever which can be locked at half or closed. It uses less voltage than 4008 cameras. Its supply is 4.8v to motor/zoom and 2.4v to lighmeter. Some early models have the main power switch on the side of the camera, most ones use the button on the back of the handle to engage power. Parts are still available as well as service from Beaulieu.

It has a speed dial which is variable 2 through 50 fps. The cameras also click stop at either 18 or 24 (I've seen both on Beaulieus).

The shutter speeds are as follows:
2 fps = 1/7th of a second;
4 fps = 1/15th
8 fps = 1/30th
18 fps = 1/65th
25 fps = 1/87th
36 fps = 1/130th
50 fps = 1/175th

I know I have picked up a Super-8 Beaulieu Camera thinking that the speed was variable, and it was not. It had steps to it. I cannot however tell you which Beaulieu camera it was.

Probably a 3008 or 5008 multispeed. They have 4 discrete speeds each. The later 6008-9008 cameras also use discrete speeds.

I owned a 2008S once. I had to keep recharging the batteries, and I never liked the awkward grip. Apparently, an extender for the grip is better to have to get steady shots. Well made though.
