I finally began shooting my first serious attempt at a proffesional film for a portfolio. The one that begins them all. The film is collecting fast and soon it'll be time to transfer the film to MiniDV for editing.
I'm not really falmiliar with transfers. And now that it's time to do that i'm looking for any info and help anyone could give. Like what is the transfer that i'm looking for called. And how much should i expect to spend? I'm planning on transfering a total of about 10-13. All shot at 24 frames. What's the best quality transfer for the money? It could be Film and Video Transfers in Reseda. However supervising your transfer session is more difficult at Film and Video Transfers, which might explain why the price is very good, and the quality should be good also. You can get a super-8 rank transfer for around $150.00 an hour, but you may have to leave the film. They also offer a very good quality super-8 telecine film chain transfer for around $90-100 dollars an hour.
Yale film labs in North Hollywood does good work, but they are more expensive, but you can actually sit down there and supervise your transfer.
Pro 8mm in Burbank appears to be slightly pricier than Yale, but I don't know what they actually charge.

How would you compare the film chain transfer with one of the Moviestuff ones? Anybody?
