actually, i saw another sixth generation china movie, its called souzu river by jou lei, and its great aswell, check it out, im shure you gonna love it.

KarWai's film has a certain feeling that is quite exhilirating. You do feel his resourcefullnes and creativity in a man that shoots films whithout a script. I would not classify him as a Sixth Generation filmmaker. Stylisticly and thematicaly there are significant gaps between the two. I myself have enjoyed the films from the 6th and 5th Gen (Raise the Red Lantern).

Yes- Christopher Doyle is one of the great cinematographers working right now. Without him and WKW, 90s MTV videos would be at lost and dull (and w/o 90s MTV videos - Hollywood movies woul be less slick and dull). However, for some reason his non WKW films tend to be not as satisfying. I guess its true- directors are still the driving artistic peole behind the camera - no matter how talented your DP is.

Did you enjoy Chungking Express? Its a little lighter than FA but it has a charm that is undeniable. Days of Being Wild is thematicaly related to Happy Together and In the Mood for Love, but I think its the film that bridges all KarWai films.

    "souzu river by jou lei"
Im on it like Doyle on a 535B.

"Well - someone has to fly the flag"

Then add "Sexy Beast" - Ray Winstone/Ben Kingsley

    Bloody Impossible

Actually I think the Truman Show is brilliant and I always like a good cowboy film.

Isn't the favourite film a circular question because it is always in the eye of the beholder.

Anyhow another bunch to think about:

    Brassed Off
    Walkabout
    Kes
    Henry V
    Oliver Twist
    Train Spotting
    Sense and Sensability
The Railway Children (a plug for the KWVRR)
    The Square Peg
    Carry on Cowboy
