hello guys
Okay
Im sure we have covered this topic before but, im looking to possibly upgrade to a new projector. I have a Chinon 6100, and it produces some really nice pictures, and doesnt scratch my film, but Ive heard comments about projectors with access to the gates for cleaning, a brighter bulb, and the possibility of sound recording/syncing etc.
Im not looking to spend alot, but when I do have some extra money in the future, what are some nice projectors for a reasonable price.
Ive heard Elmos, Eumigs, Bauers, Beaulieus, etc.
Any input on your preference, and...
is it really worth it!

Hello!
Everyone raves about the Elmo GS 1200, but if you don't have to have stereo sound then try to find an Elmo ST 1200D or Elmo ST 1200HD. These projectors are very easy on film, give you access to the entire film path and can even be upgraded to a 200 watt bulb, a process which is nicely documented in Brobsky & Treadway's "Super 8 in the Video Age". The standard bulb is 150 watts. From what I've seen, they usually go for between $250 and $350 dollars on eBay, which is a steal if you can find one in good condition.
I'm not exactly sure, but I've heard that it can be hard to access the film path on Eumig projctors and they usually don't have the light output of the Elmos.
Elmo means flexibility- good for viewing and sound work at home but also exhibition in larger rooms!

My film screening will be tommorrow, 6pm,
at the Business Adminstration building 101.
The film screenings will consist of the 250 (intro 16mm film production) and the 355 (intermediate 16mm) students. Probably be a good size crowd.
Did u hear that our school was named the #1 film school in California! How exciting.
Can u make it?

Heard about CSUN being #1, we briefly broached the topic under the heading "Anyone Remember..."
6:00PM Friday....I'm so behind on getting some tapes out...but I'd love to go.
Back in the days...250 was actually a Super-8 class.
Hey, I could play one of those stalker types and show up to your screening but not introduce myself.
Cool....a stalker with a kind heart...now that is a character for a movie...and he's modest too!

That must of been cool when the 250 class was actually shot with super 8. Email me some of your experiences. What camera did you use, and how was the overall class etc.
If you show, and stay silent, thats cool, but if you do show, I will be with my girl freind, and her father. You can't miss me, just look for the guy who looks like Matt Damon.

Not to stray away from the projector thread, please, please give any information possible, including your experiences with any particular projector u like.
I would hate to sink alot money into a projector just because it has stereo sound but...if I actually had the money, I'd probably would.
I would like a projector that would have a 150 to 200 watt light source, I think my Chinon 6100 only puts out, ohh i dont know, 75 to 100 watts?? ack.
I saw a place in Germany selling the Elmo ST1200 magnetic for $250.00, and the Elmo ST1200 stereo for $350.00. Pedro says theyre a great place to buy from. Its www.Wittner-kinotechnik.de
Im just worried im going to sink some future money into something not worth it. Only time will tell. But i have to tell you, that projecting your own film is something else, it sure does beat a television screen!
Im wondering, if the GS or St 1200 by Elmo has stereo sound, im assuming i can hook alternate speakers to it.

I like the Elmo GS-800 and 1200.
The rest never impressed me as much, except for the Beaulieu projector, and the Eumig 926 I think it was.
The Eumig Projector had amazing sound recording capabilites, but the lens was marginal, plasticky and it vignetted some.
