Hi, I just wanted to know about filming with sound. Do all super 8 cameras have this ability? I also read that sound film is no longer being made. Does that mean that it will no longer be possible to film with sound on super 8? Sorry for the dumb questions, but i'm just starting out. Any info will be greatly appreciated...thanks

Hi.
Sound film is no longer made.
The thing to do, is to get a minidisc recorder and microphone, shoot silent film, transfer it to video, digitize your audio & video into the computer, then edit both together with a program like Adobe Premier, or Final Cut Pro.
I'm sure some die-hards on this board who just cannot accept the reality that sound film is gone (boo hoo), will tell you that you can find sound film if you look hard, etc., but it's not worth the trouble, so just shoot the way the pro's do, with double system.
The results are superior, it will be cheaper than sound flim, and you won't be risking shooting on years-old out of date film that you have no idea how it's been stored, and then hunting all over the country for someone to develop it, which will be hard to find, and expensive if you do.

Shooting double system is the way to go, but if you do happen to find some sound film, it costs the same as regular kodachrome processing, via Dwaynes, Wal Mart, or Pk-59 mailers.

Fed,
I have an Elmo 1012S-XL I'm thinking about selling. Hanthx and I have both used it and it is, in my opinion, a very good camera. If you'd like you could even come to L.A. and take a look at it as I see you live in Orange County. E mail me @ [email protected] if you're interested.

Fed, I didn't realize the question of sound film availability was so well answered here when I replied to the other thread. You're in the right place, my friend!

Sound cameras will shoot silent film, just fine.
I have one of each, and have owned several of each.
You tend to pay more for the sound cameras, mostly because they tended to be the higher end models when they were made, so it's often worth it to get a sound camera, if it's a good brand.
I know nothing about the Elmo, personally.
Is it fuzzy and purple?
Can you tickle it?

If you can't make it to L.A. then I suggest looking online (ebay) for a camera.
Canon made great cameras, especially the 814 and 1014 series. They're durable and have nice lenses. The more features the camera will have the more will you tend to pay.
Do a little research from Mike Brantley's home page, and maybe you find something you like.
