Has anyone got some good advice or tips for stop-framme animating with a Super 8 camera? Especially tips for the actual things to be animated.

Should I mold my little people out of plasticine?

Should they have a wire frame?

Should I use something other than plasticine (since it is very soft and gets distorted when animating with it)?

    Thx.

Go out & buy a copy of " Chicken Run ", Hatching the Movie. This book is very helpful in what you need to know about the construction of figures. While you are at it get the movie on DVD so you can study it. While I do stop motion, mine are more on the level or cross between " Thomas the Tank Engine", "Thunderbirds are GO" & " Combat". The room I have to film in is 16 X 32 & the table I use is 4 x 8. I have about 500 buildings, over 1,000 vehicles & aircraft and countless figures & other props. Its a big job just to keep track of things, so take plenty of Reference photos while you work, they are a great help afterwards. Whats your film about ?

I dont want to say what my film is about just yet,, but I suppose it is will be more surreal than the types you make (by the sound of them). I love directors like David lynch, Jan Svankmajer and The Quay Brothers if that gives you a clue of the type of film I want to make.

    hi there

if you like those kinds of things, Id suggest using a puppet with an armature of some sort, rather than plasticene. Plasticene models dont tend to last very long.
You can makethe armature yourself, or buy a custom made one.
Whatever you do it needs to be really good.
When making the puppet you need to take into account how you attach the feet to the ground (for walking for example)
Search the web for 'Armature' and 'stop motion' - heaps of websites on it.

    Good luck
