To follow Miker's lead on reviving old, boring, stupid, or simply irrelavent threads from a bygone era, here goes:
Did anyone actually buy one of these things and if so, did they manage to cut a film on it that was any good?

Well, I did finally get to use one and I wasn't impressed. Bear in mind though that this was at least 18 months ago. It was very slow. In fact it seemed too slow to run the OS properly. All the the nice graphical OS effects seemed to stutter. I didn't get to use any editing software on it but judging by the slow OS I'm guessing it can't be good.
If you were considering one of these and having to look at upgrades for RAM etc. I think you'd be better off putting the money towards a proper mac.

I got one of the original PPC mac mini things and FCE ran okay on it. Running on 512mb and a 1.24ghz CPU or so.
The newer core 2 duo minis should be more than adequate, just like any computer bought in the last 5 years or so (well, once you've connected a screen, keyboard and mouse of course).
The CPU speed is only really needed for rendering and realtime effects. The ram is needed to stop data being swapped out to disk when memory gets full (which happens as your project grows).
Cut, dissolve, fade to black. It's all I need, but not all I want.
