It is begining to seem not such a daft idea,
still heaps of work to go but,
Ive got this background
http://images14.fotki.com/v206/photo.../train3-vi.jpg
which with a bit of noise and motion becomes this,

then i have this character
http://images12.fotki.com/v217/photo...3/test4-vi.jpg
with this motion to go on top
http://www.5ylac.biz/flashing/deadlightsredux.avi
and thats my first scene !
The Animated Mike Edwards is already proving to be a far superior actor to the original!

Don't do the train carriage move by animating the train! It's a dead giveaway and never looks right. Add a "noise" modifier to the camera (never render from "perspective" viewport), scroll down and use the "animate noise" spinner. 0.25 should do the trick for you. At the moment the sway on the carriage is robotic and you would have to hand key every frigging frame to get rid of it. Much simpler to move the camera.

Welcome to my world.
i did that tester in flash, long way from even thinking about animating in 3D yet!
btw , do you know any good 3D Max forums, having been trying a few, but there ignoring me. probably because they can see from my early work , that , that phone call from pixar animation is just round the corner ;-)

As far as the forums go, you'll be lucky to get any response other than "stop spamming us". The thing is most of the forums are for professionals and they tend (quite rightly in my opinion) to tell begginers to go buy some books and read the free tutorials on the 'net. A good place to start is the extensive 3d max tutorial set that is built into the programme. Once you've finished that you should have a good grasp of the basics. Then you just need to search for tutorials on how to perform specific tasks. If you start posting on an pro forum with questions like "how do apply a texture map" and "how do I move a vertex" you'll get laughed at and ignored.
Sad, but true, we aren't as nice as the folks around here.

There's a lot you CAN get from book learnin'
unfortunatly my version of max is cut down so i dont have the tutorials.
have finally found a forum with people that reply! with the 3D Arts forum hoorah!
does seem though books are the way to go , as most of the tutorials i have come across (admitedly its only been a week) have been pants, or virus ridden ad pop up infested casks
This is at a slight tangent, but does anyone use any software to design their titles? What is available and what results can yo get?
Cheers.
Adobe After Effects is supposed to be about the best thing around for that.
you get tired of working with real people or something????
