hello there folks!

i was looking up the internet after some 'guide to no budget filmmaking' and i've come across this mess board. well, i have to say that i'm very keen to start making an indie no-budget-at-all movie here in this not-really-a-big-place-for-filmmaking country, brazil.

i think i understood (close to almost) every aspect necessary for starting my own production. but here's the catch: i got no experience or knowledge in filmmaking at all. and that's why i got some questions and doubts that i really would like to have some help on.

for starters: i'll (probably) be working with a Bolex Paillard R2 camera + acessories (that i found second-hand on the internet for R$60. something like US$30, or a little bit less). is it a really good camera for a beginner, as in easy to use and to roll?

and what gadget and know-how am i going to need for making a in-sync sound movie (as in dialogues and sound effects, and even maybe a little music)?
in short: what equipment and what should i do do add sound to my pelicula?

could you please help me with those?

I think that the Bolex is a decent camera to get you on your way...

As for Sync-Sound. You just opened a huge can of worms when it comes to trying to get sync with Super8. It can be done but it will require some investment of both time and money.

I think that your best bet is to figure out what it is you want to do in filmmaking. DO you want to write?? Shoot?? Light?? Direct??

If you want to understand the photographic process there is nothing better than getting a fully manual 35mm still camera and learn about the still process.

anyway, so, is it best to use a 35mm cam for sync-sound, or is it best to use no sound at all in no-budget filmmaking?

I think you misunderstood me...

What I said was that you should learn the basics of still photography with a 35mm SLR. Such as a Pentax K1000.

If you want to use the Bolex go for it but just stick with playing music along side what you shoot.
