Evening all. Ive just signed on.
Im 21 and very keen in Film making and design. I create levels for Half Life http://basik.unitedgaming.net/
I am getting together a plot for a plausable movie and just wondered about any computer software that is available (hopefully cheap) that you lot know of/use.
I have a sony DV Camcorder and some fairly basic but useful editing software.
Any replies would be appreciated.
Also are there any other decent forums. Specifically for recruiting small time/first time actors?

Cheap? MGI VideoWaveIII is cheap and seems to come with every piece of software/hardware you buy.
You could always try Adobe Premiere, but thats PRETTY expensive. Get a pirate or sommat
Or you could use Ivideo if you've got an imac.

Unless they seriously revamped the software, I believe AlamDV (Amateur Light and Magic for DV) is solely for post-production special effects, such as adding lasers, etc. to existing clips.
If you're looking for a basic editing package, its hard to buy new hardware without something being included.
For what its worth, I've been using Ulead's MediaStudio Pro for almost 3 years and I love it!

If you've got a mac and you'er looking for basic, iMovie 2 is deffinately the way to go. I've currently reached the pinnacle of what iMovie can do and am in the process of learning Final Cut Pro 2 and/or 3. But I've edited 5 or so movies on iMovie 2 and we've sent them off to Film Festivals and have recieved good feedback. It's VERY easy to use and will provide some good, but simple, effects.
