For some reason people nowadays believe animation is for children. That's not a very weird thing to believe, because most of the animation IS for children.
But back in the days animation started for adults, just like comics. But several 'conventions' were held on this subject and the use of animation and comics was limited. Through this limitation, adult oriented cartoons changed into children oriented.
In Japan animation came before real life action, hence the **** and action in the animes.
Then there is Disney. No need to go into that.
For some reason, animation is held back. People would rather see real people in stead of drawn people (including myself). But, if you want to see movies, you want to be swept away in a fantasy world, right? Then why not see drawn characters while you're at it.
What I'm getting at is this: I think animation is a terrific way of making movies, and it is heavily underrated. The creative freedom is almost unlimited (as far as the artist's pencil goes of course), it's cheaper (I don't know what an average disney movie costs, but probably less than an average 'real' movie) and it can be incredibly beautiful.
Then why do people want to see real movies? I think, for a reason, because animation is still related to children.
I've seen some of the coolest directed/choreographed (sp?) stuff in an animation, things which could never been done in a real film (although the next matrix films seem to be getting close).
I was even thinking of starting my own animation studio for adult oriented movies. I love drawing, I love art, I love story telling, and I like dreaming so why not dream about something like that. BUt anyways...
What do you think about animation vs real films? Is there a chance you'll see animation become 'big' 'again?' ?
Oh yeah, I don't like the cgi animations. But there's a whole new future in that as well.
I've spilled me guts.

for all the advantages of animimation i just dont think watching a picture of a man is as compelling as watching a real one
id be too impatient to do animation anyways, why spend hours drawing a man walk across a room when you can film it in 10 seconds?

short scenes do take longer, but scenes where people start falling from the sky etc dont take the amount of time used with film.
But how about watching animation? Would you go see an adult oriented disney film with a cool concept? One that makes you say "wow!" but... it is drawn...

Patient is POWERFUL! I just bought software from www.framethief.com I enjoyed it so much. It gave me so much ideas to make some projects like music, comedy and science fiction. It would be cool to make something that people can get to appreciate it without know how it is working on digital animation instead of use film. It would be faster than try to use film. Let me know if you know about www.framethief.com ? Jerome, deaf filmmaker and videomaker
