The best director would be he/they who has/have made the best piece. The best film i've seen is "Un chien andalou" (1928) by Bu?uel and Dal?.

(About scorsese: If you're american you pronounce it that way. Altho in italian a vowel can never have two sounds, like a in english is "ay". And e is never pronounced "ee", but more like e in hemp.)

    I have to go with...

    Director: Mr. Martin Scorsese

His last name is pronounced SCORE-says-EE
If you don't believe me, find an interview where he says his own name! Anyways...
Bringing Out The Dead is an awesome movie, and is not one of his better films...

Fav. Film: Das Boot or Fight Club.
Both films are uncomparable so they tie!
David Fincher, Brad, and Eddie are GREAT!
Wolfgang is a cool guy too I guess, but the steadcam operation deserves tons of credit for DB.

    Another fav is GATTACA.... excellent!

Fav. Actors are: Brad Pitt... F.C., Seven, 12 Monkeys... doesn't get any better then this...

Also I am a Tom Sizemore fan, and Matt Broderick... come on... WARGAMES! Excellent...

Is there any other way to say Scorsese? I've never heard it said any other way.

Even Scorsese's worst films are made better than most peoples best. (IMO)
I usually find the flashhy effects that are around nowadays annoying, but Bringing Out The Dead changed this.

Anyway, he's my favourite director, followed by Oliver Stone.

Favourite films are Goodfellas, Apocalypse Now and JFK. Oh, and Forrest Gump gets a mention, I'm a nostaligic, sensetive bastard. smile

Sorry for listing too many. smile

    Red face

Kubrick is a master and one of my favorite directors, up there with him would be Scorsese. On another level Fincher, a.p.t anderson and Ridly Scott, I love them all, they all have something to offer. So I can't pick just one.

Not to forget Peter Jackson's horror exploits Bad Taste and Braindead (aka Dead Alive). Nobody managed to gross out with more fun than this guy.

But my credit for best director goes to John Woo. He doesn't make violent action movies, he orchestrates a bloody frenzy. Utter mayhem doesn't get any better than "Hard Boiled".

    Scorsese pronouncation:

    Retard American Journalist:

    SCORE-SAY-SEE

Proper (According to me and Martin.):

    SCORE-SEZ-E

    So yah... ninja is right.

How come no one has said Robert Rodriguiz? (SNICKER!)

I guess I'm a retarded American journalist then. smile

'say-see' is the popular way of saying it, and the only way I've heard it.

The only reason you say it that way is because of Televison. Simple as that. Tons of words are pronounced incorrectly on tv and film constantly. The reason I feel that is pronounced "Score-sez-ee" is because I heard him say it himself once.
