They use something that acts like a filter in a sense...

It is all done in the processing.

Different amounts of chemicals, etc do different things to the film...

That's why there are so many different types of film. During telecine so many things can be altered causing thousands of outcomes. It is just a matter of the director explaining the look he wants on the camera report sheets, etc, and then when the lab corrects for colour, etc they just alter the chemical amounts to what the director has specified, or the DOP.

Hope that helps. Anyways, the equalivent in Premiere would just be the colour corrects tools... they allow you to adjust everything... Your reds, blues, and greens, your contrast, your hues... everything... lets say you shot on DV with flourescent lights, and you want to get rid of the greenish tint... then use Premiere to alter the colours until you get the look you want.

I noticed while watching DVD's like Sleepy Hollow and Unbreakable that there is a serious color diffrence between the raw footage and the final footage. I assume that they put some sort of filter on the footage in post but i'm not sure. Does anyone know what they do to the film and if it can be recreated in a program like premire?
