Hey I was wondering if anyone could give me some advise on audio.

    I have

    Sound Forge 4.5
    Cool Edit 2000
    and GoldWave

Which one should I stick with. Which is the best.

Ive looked through all the effects but I have no Idea what they do. So I was wondering if anyone who does know what there talking about, could give us a list of what are the most commenly used effects in these audio programs and what do they do.

For instance. Making a voice sound like its coming down a phone. Cleaning audio up. Getting rid of wind noise. Just helpfull thing these programs can do.

    Ok hope someone can help.

    Despin out.

I have always really liked Sound Forge. I have 5.0 which is not much different from 4.5. I feel it looks great, its easy to work with and has lots you can do with it.

Cool Edit seems more like a consumer product where u cant do as much and the screen is too complex compared to sound forge

dont know about goldwave, but i know cool edit and soundforge. The difference between these two is that s.forge is only a stereo editor. Cool edit is both a stereo editor and a multitrack editor. so...in soundforge u can only edit a single stereo (or mono) wave. They both have their benefits, but for stereo editing i like sound forge.
As far as the telephone voice..u can do it by using a parametric eq. simply cut all frequencies but the midrange (1-3k) and you'll be left with that nasal effect. u can use compressors to clean up audio and reverbs to create depth. also, to clean up audio u can just hilite and cut selections , or turn down the volume in sections that arent being used..
    peace.

If u add Sound Forge Vegas Audio (which is a mulitrack (with video) audio editor) you will be set with a full post audio digital lab.

Ive got sonic foundry vagas. Im not a big fan of this program.

I realy like premire 6 at the moment.

I just got my hands on Cakewalk Guitar Studio and sonic foundry Acid pro 3.0. I totaly recomend these two programs for composing your own music for your movies.
