K, so this is my situation.
I'm moving to Switz. for a year next year and I gotta buy a laptop for DV editing.
Now, taking cost into consideration, what would by a wiser decision; a PC or a mac and what kind?
Keep in mind I will have to use it for other things besides editing. (eg. school work)
I know we have discussed this to the point where we all feel like leaving this board and hanging ourselves in a tree outside. All I'm asking is for a simple response. No large answers of stats and numbers. Remember, this is not a debate of which is better. It is a question of which one is more practical.
Also, can someone tell me if they use NTSC or PAL in Switz. and if I need some kind of an adapter for power (please excuse my ignorance).
Help would be appreciated.

Here's my take;
If your ONLY going to do editing, design or even music and price isn't an option: buy a MAC.
If you would like to do many of the same things(and even MORE)that may or may not be ON PAR with the mac at an affordable price: by a PC.
Now,if your thinking about getting a PC,take a look at this article about the next-generation Pentium 4 laptops comming out very soon. Some models are going to be as low as $999!

Also, take a look a pricewatch.com.Sometimes you can find an even better deal then other places.

Unless you need to use any windows specific software, like MS Access, my own view is that a Mac would be better. From the iBook Firewire (2000-2001) and 'Pismo' firewire Powerbook they all have iLink, or firewire or whatever. Also they tend to hold their value better & have a longer usefull lifespan than x86 computers.

Hey there. Switzerland (like most parts of Europe) has the PAL standard.
Regarding electrical power. Since we have 220V coming out of our socket, so you'd definitely need an adapter. Or buy the Laptop and Camera right over here.
Make sure to drop me a line when you're here!

oh no, not another PC MAC (one mouse button) debate...
i'd recommend a Mac esp. the iBook - but then again my view is biased

you'll doubtless get less hassle with a Mac, plus they have firewire built-in where I doubt low-end PC would (but you can get cardbus firewire for PC for around ?100 or so)
also, with a Mac, you'll look like a media darling and everyone will assume you think different when in reality you're just using a Mac cos it's the right tool for the right job - maybe

Or you could just buy a new power pack from apple in switzerland.
And about bias, i'm a UG doing a joint degree in ICT, IT with the internet added, and Expressive English, I've used all different machines, and now that ARM machines are rare as unicorn shit i would say that Apples are my favourite machines, and now that the use Unix they are even better.
