I just wanted to know if there was anyone as young as me im 16 i love films with a vengence and i want to make films but i would some advice on starting up. cheers

There has been a guy who is only 14 chatting on the board recently, his name is hotblack desiato. Scroll through the messages and you will see his entries. Try emailing him and see how he is getting on.

One of the worst things of being young in this "film-thing" is lack of cash (having said that I am 45 and I'm not rolling in it).
But don't forget there is NOT JUST the camerman in a film crew. There will ALWAYS ALWAYS be room for others, specially if you are just starting and are keen to "do film stuff". I am making a film at the moment and could do with someone holding the reflectors. (That's not a request - I live in N.Ireland).

Try joining a video/film making club, there are hundreds about. Try looking at the IAC website (the link is on my site somewhere), they have a list of all the affiliated clubs. ALL clubs I mean ALL CLUBS want young blood believe me.

Study your basics.
Dialog, composition, plot development, willing suspension of disbelief.
The fundamentals. All the techno-fizz in the world is useless without the fundamentals.
Even if you plan to break all the rules; take the time to learn them first.

I'm 14 as well... I've made two shorts so far. what finally got me going making a serious movie was having a mini-film-fest with friends wherein we watched a few good movies and shorts, then set out to make our own. I've been editing at a friend's dad's work and using a Super 8 and mini disc to record everything. I think having a creative script really makes things more fun, and I spend the most time on that. On Eegit's somewhere it says "Its not the film you use, its whats on it" and this is very true (our budgets can prove that).

While mistakes and the learning process are the mother of creativity to a large extent, Can you recreate it if necessary.
For example. I do a lot of bizarre, moody stuff. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
once I just threw together a set but only got about ten or 20 seconds out of it.
When your own footage catches you off guard and gives you the screaming creeps for half a second you just may be on to something.
However I could never recreate it, although I spent hours, it could have been one of a dozen points.

seriously I think it is great you are making films at such a young age, I did make a few when I was young, but they were never any good- good to look back on and laugh at mind
