Anyone have any tips on how to tint digital footage? Mayeb take down some of the harshness of the colors?

i'm currently using pinnacle studio, and on that you can change the colour settings and that. i reckon with something better like adobe premiere, you'd be able to do it easily...

congratulations mr.cricket you are one step further to becoming a better cinematographer, just like with film you colour time in the lab, you do the same for digital footage as working with raw DV is sh?t

go into the gamma correction or levels or brightness and contrast filters in Final Cut and p?ss around there - or as i always say, try to do all that 'in-camera' while you are shooting as it can save a lot of processor time in post... like the XM/L1 i know has colour tinting options

I have a question for you guys. When do you colour correct your footage? Do you edit your movie then colour correct every single edit (this is what I do and it takes chuffin days) Or do you correct your rushes before the edit? I cant work out when I should do it.

that' a good question. One would think it would be easier to do it before editing, so you can just correct large chunkes of film rather than going into the timeline and correcting each little peice. But I always seem to get excited and carried away when i start to edit and just jump right into it and don't do any correction until i have everything already editted.

But I think it would be best to correct it before it is editted. And thanks for asking this question, now next time i go to edit something, i will remember to correct it first.

I would advise you to colour correct AFTER editing. This is the way it is thought over here anyway.

Think about it logically. If you correct your rushes your rendering time will be roughly 4 years. Edit it first. Then test your settings on a small section of footage. When you have it right apply it to your final edit.

see but if you correct your rushes first and then export them you should have to render them when you bring them into the timeline again. That is how it would work with premire and a matrox anyhow.

correct me if i am wrong, but by rushes you mean raw, unedited, freshly captured footage right? I hope so or i'll feel like an idiot.
