Basically agents dont read scripts. They read treatments- so one side of A4 should be essentially a overview of the story with the key points highlighted. Dont go into major themes, or character detail, keep the language simple (agents are intimidated by too intellignet scripts), and most of all: KNOW WHAT SELLS, AND PLAY ON THAT. Be aware of generic conventions, know what has worked for other screenwirters in gfetting optioned, and then put in your twist. I have a few treatments about, i will try and dig them up, but for the mean time i recommend SO highly a book by legendary screenwriter, William Goldman (Princess Bride, Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid, All the Presidents Men). The boko is called "Which lie did I tell?" and not only is it a great insight into the role of the screenwriter, but also a sort of tutorial for new screenwriters. There is a brilliant chapter, where he gets in loads of his mates i.e The Cohen Brothers to write scripts just for his book, very informative and inspiring.
