Hi all
Is there a way I can film in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio using a DV camera?
P.S. My camera can film in a 1.78:1/16x9 ratio. It's a Sony Digital 8.
Thanks

Hmmm, I've got an idea but it may or may not be helpful.
Shoot in 16:9 format and then when editing crop the frame yet again. Obviously when filming your footage you'd have to take this into account. Is it possible to get extra lenses for your cam? If so you may need to get a wider lens if trying this other method as you wouldn't be left with much picture area.
I don't know, I'm confused.

There are two ways that will produce an usable image. Any other cropping would result in a massive image degradation.
A) Use an anamorphic adaptor 16/9 from optex or century. Shot with the adaptor AND use the 16/9 fake mode in your dv camera. This will produce an exact 2.35 : 1 aspect ratio. You can also crop the anamorphic video in psot instead of using the 16/9 mode in your camera, but it is preferred that these modifications get done on shooting, simply to avoid recompressing generation loss.
B) Use a real 2.35 to 1 anamorphic adaptor. You can get some nice second hand from Kowa (PA-35) or russian's Lomo. These are expensive. Have a look at www.sovietcamera.com.
Hope this helps,
