me too!!!! you stay up all night and for a second think maybe hollywood isn't all that bad. and then i cry too and fall asleep on the sofa all happy and dream about my oscar speech. then i wake up and have to go to work and realise i'll probably never get one and if i do it will be when i'm really old and i won't be all young and beautiful anymore so the video will look bad and i won't be able to wear that red dress i always dreamed about with a billion dollars of diamons around my neck...

...yeah, talking about the oscars really doesn make you want to rant. i just wanted to say a agree with mr cinemaster...the oscars make me happy...

Just for the record, I have no real problem with the Oscars or Roman Polanski. Although, most 13 year olds i know couldn't pass for of age. But that doesn't mean he doesn't make good films.

In my opinion we live this life by our actions not our inaction. The beaurucrats that would have us do nothing are as dangerous as bush will ever be.

I have a problem with celebrating paedophiles wheter they be great artists or not. Some things are more important than art.

I dont really know anything about the Polanski thing so I can't comment, except to say that quite a few 13 yr olds actually Do look 18 these days.

To generic Skinhead i say, sure but there is a distinct difference between a do nothing liberal, a smart man of action and a frothing loony that wants cheap petrol

Back to the Polanski thing a sec, personally i find the fact that Eminem won far more disturbing,
"heres an oscar, supposedly the highest accolade of culture, for your services in devolving mankind back into the gibbering monkeys from which they were born"

So what you're saying is you can understand how an old old man like polanski could have committed such an act? Because he "thought" she was 18?! Oh well then I guess that makes it alright then! The man is too old to have a relationship with a woman under 40 nevermind 13!

Re Bush, i can understand his immense unpopularity but most of the "frothing loons" i see everyday are the anti-war people. The only way you can shut them up while you're trying to eat your lunch in peace is to ask them for an alternative solution to getting rid of the Iraqi regime.

Then they tend to go quiet, mutter something and leave.

I don't know anything about Roman Polanski, he's not a director i have studied or particularly admire, thus i dont know a)how old he is or b)when this happened, therefore, as originally stated, i can only comment on the "most 13 yr olds i now couldnt pass for age" with my observation that they can, in my experience, that is all.

And yes, the frothing does come in vast quantity from the anti war crowd (there are more people than there are presidents), i totally agree and i dont have an alternative, i dont do war alternatives i do films. But getting up one day and going " gee heck im the president who shall i randomly decide to attack today" doesnt seem a good approach.
That said i direct you to my original post, essentially saying "i dont wish to have the war interrupt my oscars, i am sick of hearing about the war", how i got into this i dont know, problably because it was more fun than working on correcting problems with my scripts central character.

    Roman Polanski
In 1974 he again appeared in the USA with Chinatown (1974) that seemed to be the beginning of the promising Hollywood career. After his conviction for the statutory rape of a 13-year old girl, Polanski fled from America to avoid prison.

    the war on iraq
Abu Dhabi, Alittihad Daily, 3/26/2003 -- The UAE leading semi-official daily newspaper, Alittihad, reported today that a US government delegation has arrived in Amman, Jordan, yesterday in its way to Baghdad for negotiations with the Iraqi government about an immediate ceasefire.

    pity it's only 'semi-official' ...

I don't condone what Polanski did, although I don't think he is the blatantly mentally disturbed type pedophile, but then again I have no idea. It is just a warped kind of tragic that he has had such a hard life, concentration camps, dead mother, wife and carried child murdered, then he is banned from the country because he was misinformed about his girlfriend's age. Maybe it wouldn' t have made any difference, if so, he still apparently got what he deserved. However, the fact still remains that he is amazingly talented, despite how tainted his work is by this... also if you want to get historical about this, Oscar Wilde was put in a hard labour camp for being a homosexual, and that virtually ended his career. Not quite the same thing, because back then what Polanski did would have been way more accepted than being a homosexual. But since society has 'evolved'... PS, Generic, a friend of mine asked me if your name was vaguely racist, or if it was perhaps a reference to Metropolis or something?
