I cant help to be baffled sometimes over a) nominiees b) non nominees c) winners...

That said I still find it a rather entertaining event, and I think being nominated and attending the oscar evening would be an amazing feeling

From Oscars to war in Iraq. This is an interesting evolution. I'm not necessarily opposed to the war. Saddam is deffinately a bad man. I would have liked to see UN backing before the attack went ahead. The inspectors may have drawn conclusions which would have gotten the green light from the rest of the world. It is ironic that the UN went after Iraq originally for being a rogue state in attacking Kuwait and now the US is a rogue state attacking Iraq...

Also, it's odd that the States is going after Iraq on the presumtion of possessing weapons of mass destruction and developing them, when North Korea openly admits that it IS developing nuclear arms. I know the US is afraid of the sleeping superpower China next door, but maybe some North Korea deserves a closer look.

I'm not as old and experienced as some on this board so I may be completely off base, this is just how it looks to me.

I think the oscars simply confirms what a self congratulatory club Hollywood is, and if your idea of a good time is watching multimillionaires telling each other how wonderful they are then thats your choice.
It seems to me quite stunning how self important they are, but people like it.
As far as commenting on the 'war', all power to them. I think if you have a strong beleif, then you should use any opportunity you get to voice it.
Although I doubt any of them know very much about it.

I'm more interested in the smaller oscars like best forgein film or sound design. People who realise the mportance of sound tend to make better films IMO.
