How many War films are there already. Your research might offer a new perspective or an un told story (look at the Pianist) instead of just basing the history on war films you've seen.
Right now your story of how the idea came to you is more interesting (from a writing POV) than the war story.
The war should only be backdrop to an empathetic character or story. Right now you seem to be just doing a war movie for the sake of it. It may end up a good screenplay, but its a bad 'pitch'.

I'd agree it wasn't a great pitch, but even so it doesn't make it an inevitable poor script. You need to write at least a treatment and get a deeper idea of character and story before asking; 'do you like it?' What difference does our opinion make at this point?
