Ive been playing around with DivX in an attempt to get nice looking movies at a small enough size to put on the net.
First question, where can i get an mp3 codec? everyone is telling me to get one.
Secondly, what settings do i need to reduce the file size? Are certain codecs better than others? Ive spent all afternoon tweaking birates and stuff but i dont really know what im doing and ive failed to get the file any smaller than 20mb for 1 minute. Sure its alot smaller than AVI but still way too big.

i'd suggest sorensen for quicktime... you can get 4.8 mb / minute with the free version
heres the settings i :used:
quicktime sorensen 3 codec
keyframes every 8 frames
24 fps
320x240 pixel size
limit data rate to 95 kilobytes per second (came out as 87.2 including sound)
for sound:
QDesign Music 2
Sterio 48khz
16 bits
if you don't have much movement or many fast scene changs (i do) then you can get away with hugely higher keyframe settings. try anywhere from 30,60,90,100,999 is what ive heard
good luck! of course if you can get your hands on a copy of sorensen squeeze your in buisness. (think apple.com trailer quality!)
cheers - hope that helps in some way

You can try out Doom9 and check the downloads section for something. They've got DivX codecx and such like.
Um, other than that I'm not too sure. Divx.com?

I tried messing around with divx - but I seemed to get better results with realvideo - if you encode it as broadband quality - the quality is great full screen - and the file size is decent, just thought id mention it.
