    My point is this:

    - I think it's important to distinguish what your critieria is when critiquing

    - Not everyone wants to learn all the tech aspects. Im interested in a few, but certainly not all. I dont wanna be a grip or gaffer, not putting them down, Im just saying that's not what Im interested in doing. Thats why a director gathers a crew (yes, even in guerilla filmmaking)

-There is another forum on HOSTBOARD titled BEGINNING FILLMAKERS, perhaps that's where the beginners should go. Guerilla fillmaking doesn't necessarilly mean untalented and no crew, it means very little budget. But even no-budget fillmaking requieres money & resources

Maybe this forum needs to be retitled.

That's why films have credits at the beginning and/or end.

So every film posted here should just be a technical exercise? Isnt that what windowslaws did - then everyone gave him(them) shit for it?

Gimmy a break man. If you want people to concentrate on a certain aspect and ignore another(such as concentrate on the story ignore the cinematography) then just so say. Its not rocket science!

Really no need to turn it into a big debate either. You seem to assume just becos you are a director we should concentrate on that in your films. Firstly how do we know you just have an interest in directing and not the other stuff? Even then how do we know you want us to only comment on the things you specificly did on the movie... urm we dont... so just give a little note about it when you post a movie. Simple.

I see everyone here as amateurs, so when one posts their work and does a good job at it, hey, it's good. On an amateur level, that is.

Sometimes something more professional comes along. I'll look at it as if it 'were' professional. That way, you'll get more critisism, it might seem like it's worse than those amateurish things, while its actually a level beyond.

Do you see where I'm getting at here?

And places to get good critism are rare. Very rare. The best way is to develop things yourself. I'm doing the fourth rewrite on the short I've been talking about right now. I've let everyone read it, everyone said it was good and all. Never read it again for a few weeks. Printed it out. Read it again. The thing is, you KNOW the problems are there. You just need someone to tell it to you. Anyways, I think I'm really heading the right direction now.

I like you belovedmonster. You speak up and fight for your point of view.

This thread is basically about being honest when critiqing other peoples stuff. You can lie to them and tell them what they wanna hear - or give the honest truth, which can sometimes be painful. But I think you more you hear the brutal honest truth, the more you get used to it.

Like I said, we all have different standards.

    Souljacker, you're too kind. It's a .02 at best.

Again, maybe this forum needs to be retitled, cause I know I aint gonna get a good night sleep til it is.

the board is sposed to be a "Guerilla Film-Maker's Forum", good editing, lighting and compositions is just as much as guerilla film making as good plots and acting and all those sides of things. If you want to ignore the technical side of things for whatever reason thats fine, but its still in keeping with the ethos of the board.

Where the name is wrong is that no one here actually does guerrilla film making which to me means a small group of people going out and shooting something on the cheap by using bold ideas to make a good movie rather than just throwing money at it. The two most commonly refered to guerilla movies here are Evil Dead and El Mariachi.

I think the problem is that for the part too many of us are starting out. We dont actually make guerllia movies but more learn the craft movies, which although they feature guerilla style film making in that we have small crews and zero budgets its not really the same thing. This is why the critique is not up scratch either... alot of us can look at a movie and say its bad, but without experience in the film business and a good writing ability can any of us put it into words?

What has annoyed me about this place of late is all the wishy washy debates we have, not quite as bad as "what is art?" but getting there... what do you consider entertainment? when does someone diserve a credit? what do you get your inspiration from?... While i appreciate some of you may take alot of interest in discussing philisophical topics within movie making (it is an art after all) i dont care for it. And now it seems when ever someone makes a statement it sets off another one of these topics.

If a certain topic doesn't appeal to you, then dont visit the thread. Simple.

I cant tell you how many threads ther are here that I find useless - but I just ignore them.

This really shouldnt be an issue. You allow things to get under your skin way too easily.
