If I had up to ?2000 to spend on a DV / mini DV camera, what would you recommend?

The Canon XM2 is a badboy DV cam with all the bells and whistles. You can pick one up from around the ?1500 mark.
Alternatively, there's the Canon XL1s (or THE DADDY as it's also known, well by me anyway), I've seen this for as little as ?2229, which I realise is a bit out of your price range but it does produce broadcast standard images and it's lenses are interchangeable. It's also pretty much industry standard for recording outside TV broadcasts these days due to it's portability when compared to ridiculously bulky betacams.
Check out the Canon website for the full specs.

You couldn't go far wrong checking out this rather tasty looking number fronm JVC AMERICA. The JY - HD10U digital hi-vision HD camcorder. I couldn't believe the price when I saw what is ostensibly a high def camcorder. the web link is

Theres a used selection of pro-camcorders on the optex web site too, but its worth checking for connectivity as some aren't firewire but composite.
If you're buying new, the canon XM2 is out for about ?1800.

Yeah, I've been looking at the XM2. Probably the one I'll opt for, if I decide to get one.
