Taking into account were i work, i have the inside track on 80's Hard Rock and i can tell you without doubt that Skid Row never sold nearly that amount of records, and as much as i love them, they were not an Alternative Band at all, same goes for Motley Crue. If thats the case, Bon Jovi are an alternative band, Poison are an alternative band, Twisted Fucking Sister are an alternative band. No, as heavy as they may be these were just pop-metal acts. Whereas Nirvana are a bone-fide underground band who got big, not a bunch of hairsprayed frat boys with a big budget and a million dollar marketing campaign behind them.
To be honest, i can't argue your dislike for Nirvana, all i can do is rebutt what you said, statements such as "he wasn't a great vocalist" well, thats hardly a worth discussing, just because he couldn't hit those studio enhanced high notes like Sebastian Bach doesn't make him any less of a frontman. I think he would be offended to even be described as a singer, he was a songwriter, which leads me to my next point. Though it may not be to your taste, to talk about Skid fucking Row and then make blanket statement such as Nirvana songs "are wank" makes your point moot.
Again, i just think taking a date-rape anthem like Bodies from a Cake-core metal band and comparing it to the acheivments of Nirvana is laughable.
Nirvana gave kids a voice, it was a band who were loud, messy, fucked up and spoke for pretty much an entire generation of people
The two things i understood from Drowningpool was he didn't care about anyone, and he liked hitting people. No subtley either, if could Cobain be called 6th Form lyricist, then Drowningpool write the lyrics of a tempestuous 5 year old who didn't get a fire truck for christmas
Hopefully a band like Drowningpool will be forgotten immediately before any more of their derivative, macho two note metal inflicts any more damage on the disaffected youth of the world

Nirvanas first album Bleach had respectable sales...but didnt compare to the success of nevermind...which had....a multi million pound marketing campaign behind it...and like I said before...its the same disaffected youth that bought those albums that would buy drowning pools today..
Again I reiterate that I am not comparing bands, the Nirvana comment was because the frontman died and its an easy point of reference because of the hype.
Plus you can hardly take the lyrics of a band and judge them as people..that would mean Metallica advocated the slaughter of the first born by King Herod and Iron maiden wanted to kill your daughter.
While Drowning Pools singer died from reckless drinking..which most of us have done at one point(recklessly drank I meant, not died from it).Kurt Cobain wasted his life and bailed out on a daughter.
The more popular band they certainly are...didnt stop the lead singer being a smacked up shit.

Yeah, wasted his life didn't he. Did he not entertain? Maybe he did 'bail out' on his daughter, at least he had a daughter before he died and when it comes down to it, that's what we're here for; to create life.

Actually, Nevermind was on the shelves for a full six months before it began selling by the bucketload, and it was more to do with Teen Spirit than any real campaign push, but given, after that, Nirvana pretty much saturated the market.
I was just being pedantic because i think Nirvana deservedly got coverage from a persons death, whereas i cannot imagine Drowningpool, a band who never had anything to say, ever positively influencing anyones life. Hopefully his death will not create any interest in them at all

drowning pool were not trying to change the world or be political...they were just about antertainment...which was more honest than Nirvana...whoops sorry Kurt, whos angst ridden lyrics were supposed to mean something...and lets face it...a slag like Courtney Love would get pregnant sooner or later anyway....

Yeah, but if Drowningpool's main perogative was entertainment, then surely they should have been at least slightly entertaining?
I wouldn't call watching four balding tubsters play awful, AWFUL music entertaining in the slightest
