Off topic, but I see A LOT of parallels between stand-up comic and drumming. He was one of the greats.

He was a comedic genius. This really sucks.

You would think that medicine could cure auto-immune diseases by now. (Not treat or manage, cure). I know he died of a heart attack (he had one early on), but I have to believe that 20 years of MS and a sedentary lifestyle contributed to it.

That's weird.I had been looking for some live Pryor's shows to download and finally found one a couple of months ago.As i was watching it i realized how big is influence has been on a lot of famous stand-up comedians,specially black ones.
You know,over here in France,RP is not known at all.Some people may remember him for his role in Superman 4,but apart from that...nuttin.
Anyway,after finishing watching the whole video,it was clear to me that this dude,you'll correct me if i'm wrong,influenced a whole generations of comedians like E.Murphy,Arsenio(?),Chris Rock etc...
which i was not aware of.

Was he the first one to overly use cursewords??
I was amazed to see how often he would use those like MF'ers,ass,F... etc. as if it was some kind of punctuation almost.
I'd like to know more actually.Any input welcome.

Richard Pryor's comedy and delivery was as classic as you can get. His comedy was based on experience and truthfulness. I don't think any comedian has made me laugh more than RP. His movies weren't bad but his stand-up was as good as it gets.
Redd Foxx was also known to be quite profane in his comedy and came up right before Richard (though I think people related more to RP).
Really a sad loss but at least he can rest in peace now...

Yes, no doubt, Pryor was the grandfather of more aggressive stand-up. He influenced ALL the top comics today weather they realize it or not...again like drumming, know it or not, Philly Jo influenced you..among many others. Same sorta thing with RP.
