Anyone use one? I used one for the first time last night. Pretty cool, except that have any of you experienced that playing dynamics doesn't work with it? Do I have it set up incorrectly? The manual doesn't say and I can't find anything online. For example, when I play a double stroke on the kick, with the first hit being soft or a pickup, and the second one louder, I get "kicked" the same force for both hits. I can't imagine this thing not being able to accomodate dynamics, so if someone has an answer for me, please let me know. Thanks.

It sounds like somebody had a compressor pretty heavy on the kick.

I was just going to say that,"...the compressor from the sound system is causing the double kick to be equal in volume for both strokes" That's what a compressor does.

On a side note, I wonder if this device causes problems for those w/hemmoroids...

I used one and didn't enjoy it. I could feel a small delay (like 15-20 millliseconds) and that drove me nuts.
I went back to using a sub speaker.

    Cheers

I tried a different brand, that reached up to 500 hz or so, so you could actually hear it. Personally, I think I'd still prefer a little subwoofer and skip it. Lots of guys don't realize they'll also be carrying a 30 lb. power amp, mike, mixer and cables for the thing.

But the Yamaha sub kick isn't used for monitoring. I had one and returned that too. It just added a thump that I felt I could easily achieve by eq'ing. I like the Audix D6 though. Bass drum sounds are really hard to get right. You can get a great sound on it's own, and then when you put the drums in the mix...the kick disappears!!

i use a self powerd sub.

a 600 watt yorkville, that can take a line in from the board or run having speaker cables from the mains run through it.

i find that if i'm doing a gig that doen't have a big p.a. with ample subs, the self powered sub helps with rounding out the sound for everything.

Yeah, the subkick is not used for monitoring. Compression was the deal (duh). Anyway, it's fixed. The Buttkicker is killer. I wouldn't suggest using this thing unless you have a sound company that can carry it around for you and if you have a big system that you play through every time. If you have those two things taken care of, this thing is fantastic. I didn't even use a wedge. The buttkicker was my kick monitor and I put everything else through the in-ears. Mixed reviews I'm reading, here, but I loved it.
