Thought I'd post a couple of tunes that I recently recorded for a film that will be out later this year. I managed to get hold of the rough mixes after the session!

Dazzler, fantastic playing man! Especially fly me to the moon, what a great arrangement, and you swing great. Few questions: Did you play your parts first and then the band played over, or all recorded at once? How many takes allowed, or you gotta nail it first or second time? Do you do many of these big sessions? Who's the singer? He does sound quite like Nat king cole, huh?

Anyway , sounds like bob armstrong did a good job on you, very nice! [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

Cheers Rudy. My friend who produced the track did the arrangements and the big band was made up of some of the best players in Britain, including Derek Watkins on lead trumpet who does all the high note James Bond theme - what a buzz playing with those guys!
We ran the charts down a few times and James (the MD) discussed phrasing etc so it wasn't a case of getting it done in one take.
They were both to click which was cool, but sort of hard when playing Big Band stuff as opposed to pop as I'm not really used to playing that music to click. I don't think it lends itself to it personally, but when you have to cut/paste different sections afterwards I guess it's necessary.
How do you know I studied with Bob, did I mention it?! I haven't seen him in quite a few years, but he was a massive influence on me along with Dave Hassell who is simply a drum/percussion guru in my eyes.
The singer is Lance Ellington who does a hell of a lote of tv, adverts and jingle sessions as well as backing vocals for major recording artists. He even gets a credit on Stings' latest album!
Anyway, thanks for the kind comments... if I get any more stuf that I've recorded sent to me, I'll post it at some point.

yeah, I think I remember seeing you mention andy gangadeen, and saying how he also went to bobby. I went a couple of times only to bob, then started going away on cruise ships, so never stayed the course unfortunately. Is dave hassell the legendary ogre I've heard he is? Love his books, but I heard he can be pretty difficult to some of his students.

Yes Dazzler you are really hittin on Fly Me To The Moon. The vocal is great too!! Must have been a gas to lay those tracks. I havent played in that environment since Interlochen Art Academy. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">hehe! I think that Dave has mellowed out a bit now, although you don't want to get on the wrong side of him by not working and practicing. The man cares passionately about music and will not tolerate people playing spurious licks/tricks just for the hell of it.
I won't tell you his comments when he saw Art Verdie's page as it might turn this website blue! [img]wink.gif[/img] Cheers for the comments though.
I'm off to Germany for a couple of days next week to record a set for tv on a prog called Rock Palast with a guitarist that I work with. If and when I get a copy, I'll try and work out how to upload it - another challenge! The guy doesn't read or write (not that that matters) and therefor there are loads of odd bars of 5/7/9, whatever dotted around that he doen't hear. To him it's all a phrase, but it makes it bloody hard to learn. I was reading everything, but I want to ditch all the dots for tv. I'm a bit nervous to tell you the truth, but with lots of shedding this weekend I'm sure it'll go ok.
