Ok....well can someone tell me what vinnie recordings to check out then cause i dont have that much of him. I have the Karizma cd and the Jing Chi cd. Both include amazing playing but both a bit rough round the edges...very roar. which can be a good thing (chambers can be like that) but it doesnt seem to sound as refined as weckl.
just tell me what to check out.......and i'll tell you guys what weckl recordings to check out that will maybe change your minds!
nothing like a good debate.....

Did you go over the post I sent on the other thread? Believe me, most guys in here love Vinnie, but this forum is an offshoot from the website dedicated to BOTH Vinnie and Dave;
http://houseofdrumming.com/index2.htm
So, I don't really think you're going to educate too many on Dave's playing. No offense, but IMO, this is a very educated forum on both these guys who, for the most part, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water."
They can handle the significance of both great talents even though many will lean one way or the other. It's not like most forums, an either/or, this is more, both/and which makes this a rather unique and IMO, more mature forum for drumming.

Thanks guys......i'll check those recordings out!
Pocketplayer.......thanks for the pages on the buddy rich tape.....i read them and virtually every post said how vinnie blasted everyone that night. which is fine cause surely thats what this forum is for.....all i said was that i thought weckl was the best. Fuse1 said that weckls drums were too quiet that night which is very true and that vinnies sounded loud so it looked more impressive. I personally was knocked out by vinnies playing that nite.....the licks were awesome......but that was it....licks. weckls had more taste. like when he did that single stroke roll.....gorgeous. And that was also the old weckl.....the new one speaks for itself!
All i was trying to say is that from the overall picture of the drumming world lots of people seem to think weckl is not as good........even when i went to a dennis chambers clinic he said that weckls playing was too cold!!! why??
im sorry if i offended u vinnie fans......just debating.

Don't be sorry, PL - that's what it's all about, & u r entitled to your opinion...
Actually, it wasn't I who made the initial remark about DW's drum sound being too low in vol., it was some1 else, but that's OK - simple mistake [I did reply if I remember correctly tho - I usually do!]. Actually, I disagree w/ the "DW's not as good as VC" theory. Both are 2 of the most stellar players ever, bringing each own's unique ability to the mix. If every1 sounded like VC or DW, w/ no diversity, it would be a ridiculous place, wouldn't it? [But this also helps to make them both stand out of the crowd a bit AW, eh?]
As far as those DC statements u made, I met him briefly, & he did seem a bit aloof, the implication being he's 'stuck on himself.' But it also could be, the fact that he's in the music business, period. One has to be on his/her toes...sometimes guys can get a little jaded or protective of their own psyches, know what i mean?
& yes, I've heard DC make that comment about Dave too. Some guys think his pocket is a little 'too perfect' [?!], if that's even a valid statement - that he's not as slippery-greasy or funky as a DC or some1 else. But that's OK - that's why there's all those other great players to choose from out there! If some1 gets bored of DW, they can simply pop on some1 else of their personal liking &/or whim at the moment. Like some1 else on these forums said, music ultimately is supposed to be objective, anyway [altho a lot of people may agree out of common sense as to what's crappy & what's not!]

Dave, Weckl and Vinnie still rule the fusion scene IMO. I like other guys as well, but these three cover all the bases.
It's really disappointing to hear comments like the DC one. He is very complimentary towards Weckl in his videos though if I remember correctly. I don't personally find that Weckl, Vinnie and Dennis' feels are all that different. They are VERY different players, but not as much so in how they groove IMO. It's not like comparing these guys to someone like Stanton Moore for example or even Toss Panos. THOSE guys have greasy feels. Even Dennis sounds "white" in comparison.

Yeh dennis does love himself a bit. but thats part of his image i guess. When i went to the niacin gig a week ago i caught dennis just before he went to go and get changed and i asked if he would be kind enough to come out and sign a couple of things for me.......the rest of the band (billy and john) came out and were delightful to the queue of fans......but dennis being dennis didnt come out. I also remember someone telling me of how he shouted at someone in his clinic.....someone shouted out "play another drum solo" and he relpied something like "shut the hell up......u think u can just go home and play this s***!!!" Although i love dennis because of this "command" that dennis has over the drums....as if to say "im the boss" similar to budd rich in that he could be the nicest guy or the worst!!
FuseU1....what was the Chick electrik band reunion like......must have been AWESOME! it says on gambale's site that they're coming the europe.....i just hope thy come the England!!!
