DVD-to-VHS-transfer....

Sorry...but can some1 of u tell me what the technology is out there that "tells" a VCR [bought in the mid-to-late '90's] that it's record'g a DVD [from a DVD player of a diff brand bought in '02]?!

Is it some kind of "chip" in the DVD or DVD player that "tells" the DVD player when a VCR is hooked into its A/V jax; or, tells the VCR to make the picture & sound somewhat distorted in cycles [only when the VCR "record" button is pushed while the DVD is playing], by somehow "sensing" some electrical impulse signal when the record butn is pushed?! [It doesn't happen unless u r record'g.]

This doesn't seem logically possible, but I'm prob just showin my modern-technol naievete...Not all DVDs have presented this prob [just the newer releases [img]wink.gif[/img] ]...

I've tried to dup/dub some stuff 4 a couple of u guys, & it "just ain't woikin'"!...It has to be some kinda technol advancemt to hinder sales-loss due to home-dup'g...

It might be some altered version of the SCMS, aka serial copy management system, aka we can't afford profit loss by asking you to pay umpteen hundred percent markups for our products the first time and then duping them for your friends for a second...third... fourth...

I've had the same probs and would love some techno help...

aaahhhh . . . i love questions that i can answer and problems i can help to solve.
the signal IS some crappy copy protection. the same kind of pheonomenon can happen between 2 VCRs as well.
i have NEVER had a prob once i purchased a Sima "signal enhancer" from best buy. other brnads are available on ebay. you should expectt to pay 25-50$. you plug the outgoing video signal into the "enahncer" and plug the enhancer signal into your target VCRs video input . . . its all RCA cable, nothin fancy.
no copywright has defeated me yet.
the reason behand this machine being available is that if you purchase a tape or DVD for home use, you have the right to back it up for yourself . . . that is what the enahncer allows you to do - back up your own personal videos that may have copy protection. that is certainly not illegal.

...as if they dont make a ton a' dough awreddy, what with the theater release, then "buy it 1st here on DVD!!" [b4 it comes out to rent]; then "rent it 1st here [at "Bal*busters"] on DVD;" then the theater "re-release;" then "rent the re-issue;" & then "rent the re-mastered re-issue;" & "rent the re-mastered re-issue w/ added features not found on the other 10;" & "get it on DVD NOW instead of on that crappy old VHS!!;" then, "get the PRODUCER'S/DIRECTOR'S choice cut [like prime beef];" & so forth & so on...[OK, OK - i'm just kiddin around here a lil bit - or AM i?!!]...

...while i'm DEF NOT a fan of stealing from an artist; the fat-cat-suits [who may know NOTHING about music - oh, wait: "i played w/ some of the guys in my high-school's stage band in my off-time/took 3 month's worth of gtr lessons on special in jr. hi"-] in the marketing dept of the record company's distribution might [i said "MIGHT"] be another nmatter [img]wink.gif[/img] ...yeah, i KNOW it's all "inter-twined," somehow [*sigh*]...
