Hi guys,
I'm interested in doing some transcriptions of the video clips on this site. If Steve is up for it, he could put them on the site if he wants to. But I have a question...
What I would like to do is extract the audio from the video clip, (I assume this would be a WAV file?) then convert it to mp3 so I can slow it down. Does anyone know of any program(s) that could do this?
Thanks in advance.
Rob.

That might be tough since most of my clips are WMV (Windows Media Video) format.
Here's what you do:
You'll have to record a WAV in real-time as it plays as opposed to converting or ripping.
Get a program called Cool Edit Pro , or Sound Forge. In the Windows sound properties open the little speaker by the Windows clock. This should open a mixer looking thing. Dop down the OPTIONS menu and choose PROPERTIES. Then select RECORDING. Now choose the channel that is playing the video clip as the recording source. Now you should be able to record a WAV using the above mentioned programs just by playing the video clip and "recording" a new WAV in the program (set it to stereo 16bit 44100hz). It's kind of like dubbing, the program records from the channel you select (in this case the channel used for the video clips audio playback).
Once you have the wav, convert to MP3.

Once the sound file is in the right format the program Transcribe! seems to be a real useful tool. I saw it on one guy's site who does a lot of nice drum transcriptions.
Transcribe! allows you to mark the measures and subdivisions on a wave form which is useful for figuring out the rhythms. It even has a sort of frequency analysis for transcribing melody and chords.
You can download a demo copy at http://www.seventhstring.demon.co.uk/xscribe/

Thanks a lot XNavy, this program rawks. The best thing is, it doesn't change the pitch at all... brilliant!
Thanks again.
