Prior to the elections alot of people were expressing their dislike for Bush (opinions are like a**holes; everyone's got one).
I remember one of the posts (my apologies for not being able to find it amongst the infinite number of politicaly motivated posts), being about oil and gas prices and how we're so dependent on the middle east for our oil and I was just curious what some of you thought about Bush again pushing for drilling in ANWR.

Hoodoo, you lead me to an interesting point. i find it ironic that people on this board have such convictions about dependency on middle east oil, yet many are into this hotrod culture that goes with social distortion. you can pleadge allegience to the 8 mpg greaser lifestyle, and go cruisin in your 54 chevrolet, but argue a war is over oil. Turn your car in for a civic hybrid then lets talk.

Oh I completely agree Wolfpits. But it's not just with respect to Hotrods and and "Big Motor Bikes" (sick boy reference).
What these Environmentalist Yogurt and Sprout eaters don't realize is that Wind and Solar power aren't going to create the Megawats to make your microwave, your television set, your computer run.
So you try to talk to them about energy alternatives such as NUCLEAR energy and then they get even more whipped up.

i remember back in the early 70s when i was in gradeschool. the teachers back then were telling us that the oilfields will dry up by the year 2040. No matter when that occurs, it WILL occur thats for sure. If you watch the movie "mad max" it depicts a world where oil is like gold. Thats us someday if we dont get our shit together. True to the form of the laws of supply and demand, as the supply of oil begins to decrease, the price will increase. Thats why i dont bitch when one day i pay $1.99 per gallon and go back the next week and its $2.49. i drive a 99 civic by the way.

I'll be honest, I have never driven a car that got better than 12 MPG, ever.
I'd rather pay $5 a gallon if I knew it would save lives.
The solution I would like to see put into place is not drilling for oil in the US but instead federal funding for alternative fuels. If they ever make that veggie fuel commercial grade I would buy it. I have to put in a bottle of octaine booster in the old car as it is because the quality (octaine) of the gas we pump now has deteriorated so heavily since the 50's- 60's.
I'm sure we could make it work.

the thing is oil is required for more that our cars and other motorized "toys"
there are so many other industrial needs, plastics for instance...
this anwr subject is more touchy than the pres. issues.
i believe that w/the technology we have today we could tap into the oil tables in alaska without doing devestating harm to the area or the animals...
relieving us of our dependancy on foreign sources of oil...
say for instance drilling from the coast at an angle outside anwr? just a thought...
but we must find and use an alternative soon

the problem with wind power and solar, is the large bank of capacitors and stuff they need to store this power so it will work in homes...
the electro magnetic radiation is a big problem...and the annoying hum.
i think this is one thing that doesnt have one clear answer.
the vegetable oil cars are kinda cool....cept the exhaust smells like french fries....so that might ruin a lot of diets...then more people are pissed off....

Drill in Alaska, then we won't be dependent on foreign oil right? Oh wait, It's a reserve...And Oh wait again, Have any of you thought about the animals it might displace?
Psssssh...

The quality of gas hasn't necessarily decreased, but there's no lead it any longer, which raised octane ratings.
As well, the volume of oil that's proposed to be beneath ANWR, at our country's current rate of consumption, would only last about one-half to one year. There's no way it would offset our dependence on foreign oil.
My wife and build Jeeps - pretty big, rock-crawlin' Jeeps, so we'd be all for any technology that will decrease the price of gasoline, but this ain't gonna do it. I say leave the refuge be for that reason!
