So I hit the myspace joint last night for a few. What a fucked up joint that all is. It seems to be nothing more than a glorified "guestbook", would that be a correct way of saying it? You get a little desciption of yourself and stuff, and then everybody jots some shit down, and gets their avatar next to it. Plus it all looks a mess and is quite confusing to look at. Kind of like a kid with ADD and a heroin addiction designed it all.

The majority of them, I agree, are horrendously
patched together - with nothing more than either
inanely-fawning compliments or lumpen abusive
bollox scribbled in every box. Quite depressing
reading, really.

(Equally depressing is discovering that Taime
Downe is seemingly spending every waking
moment there.)

I'm (already!) revising my opinion of myspace. I'm
going to join those self-aggrandising harlots, and
will patch my own music site there over the weekend,
and then nonchalantly promote the hell out it
and/or leave it to rot.

A friend of mine invited me to join myspace, but to be honest I have no use for it. The people that wanna talk to me know where to find me on messengers. That's all it would be for me, another messenger. I've got enuff as it is.

Me? Depends on how you define 'cool' I suppose.
If cool is just great lighting and lots of fancy
post-production/editing, that doesn't really cost
much on 'mates rates' (i.e. me doing it), because
even if the original lighting's a bit poor, it
can usually be digitally rescued/corrected
(providing the footage itself was shot on decent
source, of course)/.

Even once-expensive production tricks like
Bullet Time and Displacement Mapping (invisible
Predator effect) take, from start to finish,
about an hour or so to achieve nowadays.

Production team, editors, blablabla aside, it's
usually hire costs that absorb most of the
budget: electric generators, location space,
cheery pickers (if you're really ambitious),
cameras, etc.

It'z an okay place i guess, but i find myself only logging in there now and again and like Carl said... it iz more or less like a glorified guestbook of sorts. Good idea though to plug your music with a band myspace account i suppose though.

Carl, the reason some pages look a mess, is you can put in whatever code you want. So some young un' might not know HTML very well but at least they're expressing themselves and trying to be creative. Perhaps it's more of a guestbook on the personal pages, but people do sometimes post interesting rants or opinions on their blog pages. On the band pages you can post tour dates, MP3's, Merch, pictures, announcements etc. Yes that is just like a website, but unlike a bands website you're co-mingling with hundreds of thousands of people and other bands.

We've had at least 50 people from California alone ask us if we are touring there soon, which we are in the fall. So hey maybe we'll get more than the 20 people who show up at a PBF show these days when we venture down there...LMAO....sorry Raggz..hehe

There are those of you who love it...

There are those of you claim you hate it...

There are those who are indifferent...

But one thing is for damned sure, once you sign up for it, you usually get addicted within the first week or so. As much as everyone says they "hate" the place, I find most of us are there at least 3/4 times a day, if nothing more than to just check messages. I've had it since October, and have been sick of it since about December, but much like hollywood, I find myself going back for more and more. YES there are alot of 'friend collectors' or 'myspace whores' but I also know some pretty cool people are on there. That site has helped me make some pretty cool connections that I probably wouldn't have been able to do without it. So, is it lame? Yes. Is it a tremendous waste of time? Yes. Is it childish? YES. But take it for what you will. You can either use it for something productive(because so many people are on it) or you can not get it at all....OR (my favorite) you can just bitch about how lame it is, when you, yourself spend 87% of your time online, logged into your myspace account.

Yes, it is stupid and lame or whatever, and there are alot of fakes...but that's what makes it what it is and I love it anyways!

D, As for the vid thing. Thanks for insight. We're looking to do something relatively soon but only will have about 2 grand as we didn't get a FACTOR grant (Canadian government has a program that sponsors artist development) I was thinking if I can record tunes in my apartment that are CD quality for very little. We should be able to do something similar via video with the huge advances in technology.
