red hats and purple blouses
it's a ladies' club,
composed today of
old ladies,
their voices having
that certain
sing-song shrillness
obtained by
living long.
one stands up,
reads the group's
mission
to mild laughter.
another one tells
a risque joke
about an American man
that knocked up
an Italian girl.
the punchline gets
much laughter.
their food arrives.
"Mary got the tuna salad,
Martha got the chicken salad...."
and so on.
one of the women forgot her camera.
this turns to talk about
getting someone to take their picture.
maybe the man
who took it last
time? maybe.
either way, I've finished my
club sandwich and fries
so I leave a tip,
wave to my waiter
and get out.

This made me think of the title "Attack of the Neighborhood Bridge Club!"
Good expression of the uncomfortable feeling some people great when they enter resturants.
