Something to be said for the young lad,
As he makes his way through the streets,
The streets that oppose his footsteps,
His mind racing,
Faster than his slow repetitive footfalls.
Running through alleys,
Hopping fences,
Fearing for his life,
His speed never changes as he glances.
Empty spances of beauty,
Now given way to close-minded money machines,
Laying waste to what once was,
Making what is, for the what might be.
Oh how this child wishes to be home.
This reunion of the city and himself,
Is murdering his mind.

Dealing with personal fears I suppose... When you go from living in the country, to a big city such as Chicago, or New York, where you hear of all these problems, and you look around, at the same pace ya know? But inside you just wanna run, cuz you feel like you got a bullseye on your back.

Your explanation really helped me to see this. The lines, "This reunion of the city and himself, Is murdering his mind." really made the poem for me.
-Parch, I like your vision from this...Are you envisioning the opening scene from Disney's Aladdin...haha.
