What is your first memory of television/watching television?

Has one always been prevalent in your household or did you not watch much TV when you were a kid?

we had one growing up.... but its usage was limited
to me (and my sister). vcr's didn't come about
(on a whole) until much later... so you were
basically limited to about 30 channels on cable.
(and about 5 of those were pay channels)

First memory of something I can now identify was from "THE MONOLITH MONSTERS", a 1957 B&W <font face="Bloody">Creature Feature</font> playing on late-night channel 5 (long before FOX) here on the East Coast. Kinda silly movie about meteorites which get funky on Earth, (growing, falling & shattering under their own weight, then growing & shattering again. Spreading across the desert like a virus).

the tv at home at my parents place was in this big... well.. sort of bookcase/minibar/closet combo in the living room, so you'd have to open panels to see the tv. So it was accesible, but it wasn't the centre of the room. And as far as watching goes, i think it was german sesame street, sendung mit der maus and lowenzahn.
(that's right, german tv)

We lived in the MTS and only had an antenna, no cable no Sat. so we only got the local channels. 1st memory would prolly be my dad watching news durning dinner or getting to stay up late and watch the show called MASH. On Sat we got the tv for cartoons as my dad was working at the mine.

I never had cable either (still dont),so all we had was the basic three.I remember Maud and lets make a deal.The Battle of the network stars was always a big hit in our household.Anybody else remember Grizzly Adams?
