I totally fell apart at my dad's funeral. Everyone was stoic. I was a fucking blubbering idiot. Partly cuz he was gone, but mostly I think because it was a wicked ass horrible death and I would superimpose my obsessions and fears and all that crap on the whole entire odd festival.
What is with looking at a dead person? I wouldn't look at him. Walking up I was doing that....im not going to look..nope...no way..wont do it NO no NOOooOO
And I didn't.
Funerals are all about the living. Im going to have people dance naked in the mountain snow in Glacier National Park and scatter me in the breeze

what scares me most... is not getting what i want
from my death. its not that i really care about
dying... its that i don't trust the people who
would be in charge of my remains to do wtf i wanted.
just thinking of it now puts me in a state of
displeasure... and quite frankly, a pissy mood.

My gramma died last year. May infact. Just celebrated her 1 yr deathday. I did go to the funeral. I made no bones about it not being my thing. I did not sing and I did not prey. But I was there. I did cry. I cried because my mom was. I know why she was crying. For all the things that should have been, could have been, but never were. I cried for almost the same reason, but for the love in my heart that overwhelmed me. Knowing I will not talk to her again or see her again. My tears were me accepting her time to move on.
I was never close to my gramma. But in the last 3 weeks of her life I made a point to drive up and see her, if only to sit by her side and hold her hand. Just so she knew I loved her despite it all. We had a moment I will cherish forever. Without a word, it was all erased in a single touch, many tears, and a glorious smile that followed when it lifted. That was one of the most spiritual moments I ever experianced.
Her reception was wonderful. People were laughing and sharing stories and events of the beautiful soul she was and it was grand. I love my gramma more today then I ever did. I was given a gift so many never get and it changed me forever.
I think of her often.

Well, look at the good side, all the things that can go wrong at a ritual funeral

My dads mum died earlier this year, she was old 80 something and had lived a great life, but my dad is canadian and all his family live there. Dad didn't want to fly over for the funeral, he went over in Janurary when she was really ill. Instead we spent the day at home watching videos we had made of my nana when we were there and just spent the day remembering her life....
Then i went out with Brendan and Adam, but she was on my mind the whole time and not a day goes by when i don't think about her.

When my step-moter died this pst November they did this jewish burial/xian service and yes I cried because not only because she will be missed by me we, we had alot of unfinished bussiness, but because my father and son were crumled. I did not sing nor did I pray but I will admit I bowed my head so as not to distress my father further since my beliefs do not match his. One thing that I did like was that as they sang her praises there was a bit of a giggle when it was mentioned that she was a bit high strung. My step-mother would have loved all the attention she was getting.
For me I'm donating my body to science to save my family some money as for a service they can do whatever they feel is best all I ask is that MY faith is respected.
