hmm...
note: this was not a start from a stand still it was on the interstate. Actually I think he should have blown me away. I'm not sure how the lightning stacks against the new GT's (which are pushing 285hp or so).
I'd really like a new Cobra (390hp and 390 ft.lbs. torque)
of course he could have just had a body kit...because a '97 or '98 lightning far outpaces the '96-'98 GT's in HP
It should be pretty close I would think between a Lightning and a GT. The 00-03 Lightnings (I believe) had boosted hp up to 380 and while that is about 100 more than a GT, they also have the aerodynamics attributes of a schoolbus.
<font size="4" face="Tempus Sans ITC, Tahoma">yeah.... you could make an F-150 XL look pretty damn close to a Lightning without much work.Originally posted by The Cheat:

As far as horsepower, it isnt as important as the power to weight ratio. My truck has 350 horses but weighs about the same as the titanic so it isnt gonna be keeping up with and WS6's that I see around town.
That's why the truck Lightning loses its edge against the GT.
It's also why the new ones (which claim 500 horses) still wont be able to run with a measly corvette or Cobra which both have considerably less horepower.
That is true... do you know what the weight difference is?
Also, the tranny and rear axle gear ratios come into play
Random Mustang GT: 3115
Random Ford Lightning: 4670
1500 is a big weight savings. And dont forget weight distribution. It's harder to get a Lightning to hook up coming from a dead stop since the back end is so light.
I think the ultimate solution is just to buy one of these....
...and then one of these to beat that one....
mmmmhhhhh...R1....*drools*
I dunno... I think I might take a McLaren F1 over that bike... ;-) Going 0-100 in 5 sec in a car would be pretty sweet.
