although this may cause possible tension (hope not)...
i am more of a 'lou reed' kinda girl.
(the reason i say this is because no matta
where dylan or reed come up, strangely, the
other surely follows. is there some tension
here that i am unaware of?)

I imagine it's not all that unlike the Morrissey-Robert Smith tension.

woooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!!!
*ahem*
i mean...
that is an interesting angle.
personally, i see them both as distinct
entities that just so happen to revolve in
the same 'generation'.
er...and of course i'm talking on the dylan/reed issue...

Don't worry, Shat.
Pogue's just pissed that I won't change the live draft in our Yahoo Baseball Rotisserie League to suit his time zone.
BTW, Velvet Underground kicks. My favorite Lou Reed tune is Christmas in February.

although i'll admit that i am unaware of your age, janks...
for the longest time i felt like i was the
only 20-something that listened to VU because
of something more than a flash-back trend.
this is an unfortunate side effect (and handicap).
one of the most articulate descriptions i have
ever read (online ) of the (VU) hypothetical comes as this:

quote:
In the years since their quiet disintegration in 1970, the Velvet (Underground) assumed a mythology that easily made up for the legions of fans they never had in their non-heyday. Reed and his former band mates -- John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker -- inspired the kinds of legends even the Beatles couldn't hope for: They were the greatest rock stars whom no one ever listened to, the most popular group that never sold a record and, famously, the band that had only 500 fans, but from whom 500 new bands sprung.

extra points for the excellent grammar.

as a side note, i feared a new(er) 'reed breakout' with the release of the movie
velvet goldmine back in '98....
whew.
oh yeah, a long time ago, i had forgiven
michael stipe for his 'reed-redo' on dead letter
(even though the sound was commercial)...
update:
he has since pissed me off.

FWIW:
I'm 33 and my favorite REM song is 7 Chinese Brothers, but I'm Scottish/Bohemian/Russian by birthright.

alrighty!
my favorite r.e.m. song is gardening at night
...yep...it is.
i've tried to muffle that taste o' garden for years...
best r.e.m. album: its a toss up between murmur, fables, and (naturally) eponymous.
*varies with my mood*
speaking of moods and r.e.m.-- i have the
strangest urge to argue that anything past
green shoulda just been lumped into
a big box set and labeled "shit"...
it certainly woulda saved time.

Yeah. Your probably right about that. I thought Reckoning and Murmur were good records. I call them "Records" b/c I had Reconstuction of the Fables on turn-table. That was R.E.M.'s drop off point.
