Great Whites will be soon begin the annual pilgrimage here to California.

Every year Great Whites will visit the coast and in particular the Farallon Islands Generally Sept through December is when Elephant Seals are in great abundance and larger Great Whites 16 ft and up will come through.

However we do see them coming along the coast line chasing seals and larger salmon.

So what does this mean!

Well if your native or visitor to the coast at this time of year June - Dec and will be entering the waters on these shores, some basic rules will help you enjoy this beautiful coast and mnimize any possible encounter. swimming here is cold and staying in groups or close to other people. Swimmers here are generally safe as most attacks are on surfers and free divers.

Avoid swimming in an area where sea lions are present.
Also avoid swimming at dawn and dusk.

Surfing when Seal lions are present should be avoided.

The only 100% guarantee is not to enter the water, but the amount of attacks here are low in comparison with the number of people who enter the water.

Enjoy the water and the coastline and remember we share our oceans!
