At the time of her death, I didn't consider Maureen and I full fledged friends. Most of our contact was via email or on this board, and she still exercised caution when we met in person, each time at a neutral location.

Oddly, after a year and a half, I still find myself missing her. During the several times that I got to converse with her one on one, I realized what a special person she was: brilliant, wickedly funny, and a very special mother.

I don't dwell on it; however, last night I was driving from Middletown on I-75, and happened to think about her as I passed West Chester. It made me sad. I wished she were still here.

I wonder how her children are doing.

You honor her memory, and that's the most and best we can do for a friend or loved one who is no longer with us.

When is the anniversary of her death.

It's good of you TBS to bring this up. The worst thing a person can be is forgotten.

I think of her too.

Big Sexy, more than once I've wanted to run something scientific by her, or just share a joke. We still have her springform pan, and there is a little part of me that keeps expecting her to come and claim it.

We all feel the loss; thank you for bringing it up.

Am I the only one who keeps email addresses in my contact last after people have passed on?

Oh, and Lake --it was July 2006. TBS, do you recall the exact date?

I think everyone misses her in one way or another.
Closer to some than others, but yet close to us all in here.

And here's where I get weird...I still have her 3 numbers in my speed dial. I was supposed to go out with her the Saturday before she was found dead, but I only called her cell (it wouldn't even take a message; I think it was full) because I didn't realize I had the other two numbers stored.

I suppose I should just delete them, but I have to admit I'm still haunted by the reality that I could have called both her home and work had I realized I had the other two numbers (the lady at the Cinti Bell Store reorganized my numbers and I was too technologically stupid to figure it out).

I don't remember the exact date, though is anyone sure of the exact date? She was missing for about a week or so before someone went looking for her.

I have her memorial service stuff in a box in the attic. If I think about it, I'll go fetch it. It should be near the top of the box.

I started my new job the week of July 17, 2006. We were still in a temporary trailer as our building wasn't yet finished. Gae called me and I was all happy to hear from her, thinking she was congratulating me on the new gig, and then she broke the news and it was such a crash.

I believe I have a folder I keep on one of my jump drives. It includes a few emails, but also that picture Gae sent of Maureen and D2 at Gae's house. My dealings with her were more atty-client in nature, obviously, and even though I can't comment on it those of you close to her know what the deal was. I will only say this- I've worked with some people who had bad things happen to them but, when you boiled it all down, they probably had it coming to them. Dulc was at the other end of that spectrum- you couldn't find a person more undeserving of the crap she had to put up with. I've represented people like that, there's just no explanation for it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I had a weird streak of luck with my car windshield. A rock hit it while on the highway, causing a nick, which promptly turned into a multiple crack "spider web." I had it replaced, and about a week later, the exact frickin' same thing happened, and I had the windshield replaced again. And a few days after that a truck propelled a rock into my windshield, and there was yet another small ding.

The windshield place finally just told me to put a little super glue on the nick and that would prevent the windshield from cracking.

I relayed this to Maureen in casual conversation, to which she responded like she was an encyclopedia of knowledge on such matters about the polymers bonding and whatnot and how making such an application makes sense. But she did it in this casual-scientific manner like this was something everyone in the world knew.

In hindsight, this isn't as funny with me telling it as when it happened, primarily because I can't capture exactly what she said and how she said it.

It's one of those slice-of-life moments that sticks in my head.

Question

When Lake gets back and before we go is there any interest in a Gathering (TM) to put all former gatherings to shame?

GL, I'm looking at YOU!! We can put you up if you care to make the drive.
