Conundrum

I have no issues whatsoever with eating conchs. It's killing them just to take their shells I find reprehensible. Just like killing an animal for its fur or just to mount its head on the wall is wrong to me.

But there is a certain crab at Pass-A-Grille that I have not been getting along with. He claims an area about the size of an automobile. Last Friday evening he pinched me on my ankle a couple of times and then Saturday he went after my big toe. He's all the size of my fist, but damn he stands his ground LOL. I know it's the same one because he is so aggressive about this particular area. I'll try to not bother him too much tomorrow.

Last time I was at Cocoa Beach ('05), I picked up some little critter in a shell and it started squirting me! Retaliation by pissing! The little shit. I dropped it back on the sand, but all 8 of the kids with us saw it and they took turns getting squirted. I made sure they didn't harm the little pisser, though.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Depends on what the critter was. If it was a crab, he was actually spitting on you. If it was a bi-valve mollusk it was using his propulsion system simply to spray you with sea water. They take water in from one end of their shell and push it out the other to move around. It's really cool to watch a clam or coquina shell move like that and bury themselves in the sand.

When I was about 7 or 8 yrs old we went to Gulf Breeze, Florida up in the Panhandle near Pensacola for vacation. I was on a fishing pier with my father and looked down into a blue plastic bucket of water that had some crabs in it someone had caught. I was laughing and pointed at the crab and he was trying like hell to reach up and pinch me. When he couldn't I laughed even harder. He got me anyway; he spit a face full of water on me. Given the circumstances, I don't blame him one little bit... I remember walking away wanting to let him escape so bad but my father wouldn't let me...I should have "tripped" over the bucket to let him free.
