Expressing an opinion about a gender is certainly not condemnation, Pina. And I brought up Erin's stature because of your crack about her not being equal to a man.
Stature is just part of it.
I've been a woman for almost 50 years, and I just don't believe that women are inherently suited to LEO or soldiering jobs. There are exceptions, of course, but I can't think of any woman I know now, or have known over the course of my life that would be as effective as a man. And I include in that a former female narc cop.
Since I've met our resident former Ranger (uh, that'd be Jumper for those who haven't be paying attention) and you haven't, and since I live with Trav, another person you haven't met, I have to say a couple of things. Jumper is not a big guy; Trav's taller, and when he lets his hair down, tends to intimidate folks in restaurants and stuff.
But Jumper was a Ranger, and a damned good one, I'd say, since he's here to (not) tell the tales of what he did. Trav couldn't have been a Ranger. Different personalities. (Not to mention the fact that Rangers end up in God-forsaken places with no decent grocery store for miles.)
My brother is a graduate of Annapolis, but he was never a sailor. He was simply an over-educated "officer and gentleman". It's to his credit that he got out after he did his 5 after the Academy.
One nephew, on the other hand, has a degree in accounting and has been with the ONG for 20 years now. He's been deployed to a lot of the nasty spots in the world. I'm assuming he's good at what he does, because he's still alive.
Erin's boyfriend was a grunt Marine in the Gulf War, and had body bag duty. From the very little he's said, I don't think that I could have done the job without going stark raving mad. (And for those of you who think I already am, fuck off. Sorry Sluggo.)
Some of us can soldier or enforce laws. Some of us can't. I happen to think that most women can't. I also happen to think that although most men can't, they have better inate skills to rise to the occassion if necessary.
We all have different skill sets, Pina. And just to further piss you off, I will also go on record as saying that I think the stupid assed laws that require marginally or non-qualified people a spot on the cops, or in the military, or the FD are insane.
When push comes to shove, I'd rather be locked and loaded, standing next to a man, than next to a screaming woman.
Go figure.

It also occurs to me that your "women are inferior" logic is pretty convienent now that there are rumblings about a new draft being looked at to relieve the troops in Iraq and Afganistan.
I would think a patriot such as yourself would be encouraging her children to do thier duty to thier country and support our efforts there.

If the draft were reinstated, my oldest would not make a good combat soldier and would endanger the lives of those she'd be with.
She would, however, be outstanding in other areas of the military. You point is moot, though, since she's 27, and too old to be drafted, at least under the old draft laws.

I have no idea Gae. I'm guessing that if the gun is holstered and with the safety on then it shouldnt matter. I'm guessing that cops dont just leave their guins in the car on the way home if they need to stop in somehwere for good reason.
Who's to say that she wasnt picking up something on the way into work for the stationhouse.
Anywho, I have no problem with women being cops. If a woman joins the police force, she cant be expected to sit at a desk. It's not that kinda job, and they know what the job entails when they join and go through training.
The combat thing is a tough call, especially when you consider what could happen in a hostage situation.

But that's almost besides the point. As a stalwart supporter of this military invasion I'd have thought you would be eager to have your progeny join the ranks. You know do your part for god and country and all that.
