Soot

Just got my Model C converted to propane and the safety system from TOAC installed this weekend. My stove works great, but I have a question. I used the griddle for french toast yesterday and when cleaning up I noticed a black soot that had come out the back and was on the white high back. This stove has probably not been used in about 8 years. Could it just be build up from not being in use, or do I need to worry? Anyone else ever had this problem?

I had a similar problem which turned out to be nothing more than the burnoff of something which had spilled on the broiler manifold. I'd try removing the griddle and lighting up the broiler to see if you can spot the source of the smoke. Probably nothing more than a good cleaning needed.
